This project concentrated on part of the garden that had been previously neglected. The brief was to create an attractive useable garden comprising interesting features throughout.
As this part of the garden frequently flooded, it was felt a large pond would create a dominant feature whilst also helping to drain the remaining garden. The construction of a pagoda overlooking the pond provided a strong focal point from all aspects of the garden.
The presence of several mature trees grouped together creating dense dry shade led to the development of a sheltered woodland walk using plants that tolerated these conditions. To further increase interest, all the soil excavated from the pond was used to create gentle mounding beneath the tree canopy.
The centre piece of the scheme is a large ovoid lawn surrounded by a path constructed from resin bound gravel. Large bi-folding doors from the house lead onto a deck which in turn leads into a circular limestone terrace. To the front of the property, the driveway was also constructed of resin bound gravel which provides a sense of continuity throughout the garden.
