As the owners spend a large part of the year abroad, the principle requirement was one of low maintenance whilst retaining a large expanse of 'grass' on which children could still play. As can be seen from the photographs, this particular issue was resolved by using an artificial grass surface.
Borders were planted essentially with hardy shrubs surrounded by weed suppressing membrane covered with bark chippings.
